T4 and R1 summaries and remittances

Summary reports

The final step in the Year end process is completing and transmitting the T4 and R1 summaries. These reports summarize the totals of the tax slips as well as the employer portions for source deductions.

Depending on your province and industry, you may have other summary reports to produce as well, such as WCB, WSIB,CNESST, CARRA, WSDRF, etc.

PIER report

The federal government balances what you have remitted for EI and CPP over the year against what it expects, and produces a report of the difference which it sends to you.

  • P.I.E.R. = Pensionable and Insured Earning Review
  • Some of the differences are justified. You don't have to worry about them, but you may have to explain them. For example if an employee turns 18 during the year.
  • Umana has it own PIER report to compare against these.
  • In some cases, you may have an amount to remit.
